A new blog, in a new life. Okay, so the life isn't that new. I've been living it for three years now: me, the kids, the dogs and my personal king, Rick. Although I've started this blog earlier, so far it's only been photos of recent things I've made. I still have to photograph, blog and list a lot of already-made aprons, afghans, and more and more and more. But, this is my first real blog about my life on this new site and not just about what I make.
For ten weeks, we were drowning in puppies. After five weeks of age, we moved them from inside the house and under this carport area we have between our house and one of the garages. Needless to say, ten puppies in a few weeks trashed out that area, and unfortunately, it's the door everyone uses going in and out of the house. It was interesting sneaking by... okay, tumbling around... the puppies as they'd scurry for our attention. Interesting like rats leaving a sinking ship and slithering and scampering in and out of every available space. But now they're gone, and it's time to reclaim that part of our house.
Rick rearranged the stones, reshaping my garden there, and added more gravel. Then he got all of that deep, dark, rich soil ready for me to attack it.
What a great husband I have!
Then I got busy. For those that haven't kept up with my unusual chaos, I had to stop working out in April last year due to foot issues. Three weeks ago yesterday, I finally had the surgery for it. So... I don't have the energy I used to. But, I did it. Four hours later, I had 148 individual plants in the garden. The hardest part for me is waiting for the tender babies to grow and fill in the blank areas. But, it's a start!
Another fern is going in the blank space in there. The purple is called Purple Shamrock. It did SO well least year in this area and would have come back this year if the puppies hadn't 100% eaten everything in the garden. Or pooped on it. Or walked on it. The spiky plant is a hostas. The red and white blooming ones are baby begonias.

There's my fountain! I'd wanted it for a while and then last year, we got it. Then the puppies tried to eat the cords, blah blah blah, so I don't have it hooked up and running yet.
Another side. These are impatients and petunias with another hostas. The beautiful butterfly flag is a gift from my daddy this last week and fits in perfectly! Where those fence posts are, another fern will go there.
A new hanging basket -- not sure where I'm going to put it yet. It may stay with the carport garden, but may end up in my secret big garden in the back. I guess we'll see!
This is what's left to go (so far!) Most of this will be in the front of the house, a bit of it in the back garden. We're still working on those. This weekend, one of my favorite flower shops is having a HUGE sale, and the wonderful lady who works there told me all the stuff I picked up yesterday would be on sale at 8am this Saturday. Guess where you'll find me on Saturday morning!!!
So, there's the first real post about my life and not about crafts and crochet and sewing. I'm anxious to see this finished garden once these 148 individual flowers start maturing and filling out, and no worries: I'll post more photos!
Until then, find something beautiful in your own life and cherish it. One of my stones in this carport garden reads: To Plant a Garden is to Believe in a Future. It makes me smile because I love my new life and my future awaiting out there for me and my crazy, unpredictably wonderful family.
